Catch Up

It's been a long time since my last post. We've been very busy around the Overstreet house and I've finally found time to update my blog.

This past August, I started training for a half marathon. It was the first organized race I've ever participated in, and at about 9 weeks into the training I started to think I might have gotten in over my head. I completed the race in mid November and ended up beating my anticipated time by 15 minutes. I jogged the entire race and completed 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 14 minutes, a real accomplishment considering I couldn't even run a complete mile when I started training just 3 months prior.

Following the race, we traveled to San Antonio a couple of times to take Connor to the doctor. He had outpatient surgery with general anesthesia in early December. He was such a big boy and handled everything better than we had expected.

A couple of weeks later, we celebrated my birthday and then Parker's birthday the following day. Then, we began preparing for a two-week vacation in Mobile for the holidays. We attended Connor's Christmas program at the Day School and hit the road the following day. We made it to Mobile in about 15 hours, only stopping for bathroom breaks/diaper changes, gas and food.

We enjoyed spending time with family and friends, did a bit of shopping at "real" stores, and even received a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The kids still think it was amazing that he was able to find us. Jimmy and I are amazed that we were able to get almost everything packed in our car for the trip back to Del Rio. We ended up shipping four boxes of toys and miscellaneous items to our house, but still managed to look like the Clampetts from the Beverly Hillbillies on our return road trip to Del Rio.

Parker had his 2 year well visit with our FAVORITE pediatrician while we were in Mobile, AL. To my surprise, Dr. Castor discovered that he had a pretty bad ear infection and placed him on antibiotics. Little did I know, this would be the beginning of a long battle with illnesses while we were home. Both Parker and Connor ended up suffering with asthma and were both placed on xoponex and orapred (ironically after Parker had just been taken off the inhaled steroid during his two-year well visit).

Here are a few pictures taken during the past couple of months:

Parker and Connor watching TV at my parents house (just before bedtime). They have that "sick look" on their faces.

Parker not enjoying the brotherly love he's getting from Connor

Parker on the nebulizer in our hotel room in Houston. We're so thankful he does not fight us much when it's time for a breathing treatment. Giving Connor a breathing treatment at that age was not nearly as easy. We were all usually sweating after struggling with him for 15 minutes. Connor is much better now. I guess he has learned a little bit from his younger brother.

Connor waiting on Parker to finish his breathing treatment so they can play. They were a little amped up from the steroid and 7 hours in the car. (He still has that "sick look.")
