Last Sunday, I loaded up the Yukon and trekked over 800 miles with a 3 year old and 17 month old by myself. To my surprise, I don't have any crazy stories to tell about the trip from Mobile, AL to Del Rio, TX. The first day, I drove from my parents' house to Orange, TX and only stopped once to eat and for a bathroom break. I was pleasantly surprised because Connor and Parker had been vomiting and had diarrhea before we left.
We spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express and enjoyed continental breakfast the following morning. Everyone in the dining area kept stopping me and asking me how old my boys were and how amazed they were that I could travel with them by myself. I didn't say much in response because I was afraid I would jinx myself with about another 8 hours of traveling ahead of me that day.
While showering and getting dressed, Connor managed to break the ironing board in the hotel room. While scolding him I told him that he broke the ironing board and asked him how he planned on fixing it. He looked at me and said matter of factly, "Ummmm, you call Uncle Michael!" My brother owns a construction company and is very handy. While visiting in Mobile Connor watched him install, a new light fixture and oven and tile a bathroom. He's convinced Uncle Michael can fix anything!
On day two of traveling, the boys were awake most of the ride. Thank heaven for DVD players! They watched Alvin & The Chipmunks, Pixar Shorts (hilarious for kids and adults) and Nick Jr. Favorites. I think they may have both slept only 45 minutes of the 8 hour drive. I picked up fast food while they were napping and drove to the nearest rest stop for a late lunch. We ate, played, and the boys visited with all the old people that stopped. Parker enjoyed telling everyone "bye" while he walked to the car.
I only had to make two emergency stops during the trip, once for Connor to potty and another time to get the boys a treat. That being said, there is nothing like a long vacation and road trip to make you appreciate returning home to your own space and "stuff."

That is VERY impressive. I'm so glad they were good for you and you are safe at home. I'm sure your family loved having you in Mobile, especially your mom.
