Day Out with "Grandy"

Jimmy decided to spend one day while we were in town helping my brother prepare for his house renovations. What guy doesn't love demolition projects? So, I decided to spend the day with Connor, Parker and my Dad. We toured my Dad's old office, the GM&O Building in downtown Mobile. It's been beautifully renovated and has re-opened to serve as the main hub for public transportation. My Dad worked for the railroad when I was younger and even took me to his office a couple of times as a child. I have a few memories of what it looked like in the early 80s, and looked forward to my Dad showing me around.

A lot has changed since then. They've opened up the dome so that you can see from the bottom floor straight to the top. I also remember the offices being more opened with several people working in one area. I guess no one had ever heard of the "corner office" back then. Today, the large rooms have been divided into several offices and glass walls have been put up to divide the outer offices from the new dome/balcony area. It's a quiet building now--not nearly as active as I remember it being when I was a little girl.

We spotted a few trains just beyond the wooden fence separating the building from the old train yard. Connor was so excited to see a moving train so close. He stood in the window shouting, "A choo choo! A choo choo!"
